When
a
decade passes and you're
bound to get some
daft articles
chronicling what was the best music. When I suggested The Mutation
should try one of these lists I was told to do it myself. When I'm not
making sure the technical side of this mag is in working I work
as a musician and sound engineer. I've spent the last 10 years doing
sound and travelling around with my band's - Stanley Super 800 and the
Céilí Allstars - during which time I collected great music
from others like myself working in music.
So
here are some of the tracks that inspired me most over the last
10 years. I'll be adding them - 2 or 3 at a time - to the player below
over the next few issues. There is a bit of info about each track at
the bottom of the page. Enjoy
Episode 1: Play Loud
Madtheory - Intergalactic Sci -
Fi [2001]
This is music from Cork based producer/engineer/teacher/composer Tomás
Mulcahy and his buddy Ken - not sure what Ken does.. This rocks in with
its drum intro inspired by a Beach Boys song - whos name escapes me -
and soars off on its intergalactic journey on the vocal. You can get
more music and info at madtheory.com
Reese - Dirt [2002]
This is from an EP released in 2001 called ??? which features two
artists from Kilarney. The track here is by Reese who now goes by
the handle of Tinoras. Its a menacing drum & bass track with
loads of tension and scary growling bits.

onemilliontinyjesuses - Unknown
[2004?]
A mysterious stranger handed a CD to my sister at a No Means No gig in
Cork. Later the same day she left it in my van where it remained for a
few months. I found and played it I was really surprised. Searches on
the net at the time didn't yield any info but just as I was writing
this I checked again and found their website - onemilliontinytinyjesuses.com.
