When
a
decade passes you're
bound to get some
daft articles
chronicling what was the best music. When I suggested The Mutation
should try one of these lists I was told to do it myself. When I'm not
making sure the technical side of this blog is in working I work
as a musician and sound engineer. I've spent the last 10 years doing
sound and travelling around with my band's - Stanley Super 800 and the
Céilí Allstars - during which time I collected great music
from others like myself working in music.
So
here are some of the tracks that inspired me most over the last
10 years. I'll be adding them - 2 or 3 at a time - to the player below
over the next few issues. There is a bit of info about each track at
the bottom of the page. Enjoy
Episode 2 Mellow Moods
Niall Connolly - What Are You
Thinking? [2003]
I first saw Niall years back when he was starting out doing open mic
gigs in Cork. His stood out straight away due to the power of his
songwriting. Since then he has made three studio albums and a live
album all of which make great listening. This song is the opening track
from Niall's "As Tomorrow Creeps From The East" album. Find out more at

Gary Murphy - Beside [2009] Gary is an amazing lead guitatist and singer. I first saw
him 10 years ago singing and playing with a powerful blues/rock trio
Dynamo. He has remained writing and last summer asked me to mix some
new demos he'd been working on. Beside is one of the many fine songs
that we worked on.
Ian Whitty and The Exchange -
The Family is Still Young [2008]
This is from Ian's latest album "The Lucky Caller No.9". I love his
songs especially the lyrics, they are real poetry. I love this track,
it might be a bit sentimental but those strings are so sweet I couldn't
help but pick it for this..
